So, [livejournal.com profile] the_infamous_j are just starting out on the slow slow road of housebuying, and I'm going to make a filter to talk about it.

It's probably most of interest to locals, since a lot of things I'll be talking about probably won't make sense unless you live here.

Anyways, let me know if you want in. I'll seed it with the contents of my finances filter, and then you can opt-in or -out as you please!

(If you can see the next entry, tagged [Housing] you're on it; if you can't, you aren't yet... let me know if you want on)

Housebuying can be stressful but also fun. Jim and I really lucked out finding ours fast. (So did Rusty & Carrie) We had friends who looked for months and then settled on something and aren't happy about it. It might take a long time. Or maybe you'll get lucky, too!

You'll probably make it look easy!

Sad as it might make me, I find this sort of thing kind of interesting. That's a yes :)

I'll be interested in hearing about the various neighbourhoods and such as a move to K-W is a possibility in our future. Not near future, but possible.

Throw me in on it please - I'm eventually going to need to know that kind of thing. You know, if I ever get past apartment dwelling. And actually complete an education.

God I'm depressed. >.<

But I would like to see!

Sure, I'll go with that

I bought my house about 4 years ago, I can probably chime in with the occasional bits of wisdom.. Like never buy from someone who are desperate to sell cause the bank is ready to foreclose on them.. If they don't have money now, they might not have had money before, and that means any repairs were done as cheap as possible... like the shower upstairs being done with cheap tile over REGULAR DRYWALL... that's been fun to fix. and i still have to do the downstairs.

It's fun to check the price of the cheapest houses in my city, we're down to $34,900 for a house in windsor not far from my area. One down my street about 5 blocks was in the 35's, and one block south of me is 200k's.. and mine's in the 100's. Housing is weird. :)

Most definitely get a house inspection.. and make your offer "subject to house inspection approval" or however it goes.

I would even consider getting a house inspection on a brand new house.. they really build crap nowadays.
