Tidbits

The Blue Rodeo concert I attended last night was pretty good. It was the first time I'd been to Center in the Square, and it's actually a pretty nice venue. They played some stuff from their new album, as well as some most of their hits: 5 Days in May, Try, Till I Am Myself Again, and in the encore Hasn't Hit Me Yet (my favourite!) and Lost Together. They mostly stayed away from their more country-esque songs, which made me happy. :)

So, pretty awesome. :)

[Geekery in this tidbit:] With your suggestions, I went to NCIX and went to see what they had in Mini-ITX for my linux computer. I ended up with this, which appears to be a Mini-ITX motherboard with a passively-cooled embedded 1.2 GHz Celeron on it, with everything I need onboard, for $80. I realize it's nearly obsolete technology, but it's perfect for a file server. I just had to add a 1 GB stick of memory ($27) and a case ($56), and I got away with taxes and shipping for less than $200, and I'll just add in an old hard drive I have here. It looks like this will meet everything: easy, cheap, and small! And maybe even quiet, depending on how the case sounds (since it's the only bit with fans).

Maybe I should see if I can get a laptop drive into it for extra quietness and power-frugality. Or flash. mmm.

Today is Rock Band day at Chez Max. It's totally going to be awesome fun.

After months of planning (well, at least intending, if not 'planning', per se), I finally bought our plane tickets for England!
We're leaving May 14th in the evening, spending a week in London, and returning May 22nd. I'm excited!

Got to go clean house for visitors! *runs off*

Huh, we contemplated going to that Blue Rodeo show - except I didn't actually find out about it until yesterday afternoon, and which point I figured the only tickets left would be shitty seats anyway. We saw them a few years ago at CitS, and we had awesome seats (like, second row or something) and it was great.

Well, at any rate, you've reminded me to go to their website and sign up for the mailing list again. I guess I fell off it a while back.

Acoustically, any seat in the Centre in the Square is fine. If you don't care about being close enough to be splashed with the performers' sweat, the nosebleeds are just fine.

Yeah, I've seen other performances there from the nosebleeds, and it was good. I'm not really interested in seeing Blue Rodeo from that far away though...I've seen them quite a few times in concert, several times from practically close enough to get the sweat-splash, heheh, and it's hard to go back. :)

We're leaving May 28th - we'll actually be in the same country for once! Whether we're able to do anything is another matter, cos I don't think we'll be able to get down to London, but I'll talk to Heidi about it.

I'm surprised that you went for the $200 solution rather than the $30, "get a USB2 card for the laptop" option. :)

I went to buy an asus p5e-vm hdmi mobo at canada computers the other day, but they were out of stock. With a c2d and 2gigs of ram, plus a htpc case it came out to about $650. I was so angry they didn't have stock.
