Geekiness: Super Metroid

So, Super Metroid is one of my favourite games, and possibly my favourite of the 16-bit era.

It was released on Virtual Console recently, so I'd been playing it recently and beat it yesterday, with a time of 10 hours 7 minutes, with an 83% completion rate.

Now, you get the best ending if you do it under 3 hours, so I tried again today, and did it in 3 hours 34 minutes (69%). Hmm. That'll give me the second best ending. But I'll need to tighten it up a bit more to get the best one. So close!

Can I do it fast enough if I just try again, and try to do it quicker, or will I need to actually go through, write down everywhere I need to go, and then try to do it? Hmm.

I recommend looking into speedrunning demos online - there's probably some great Super Metroid ones out there. :D They'll help significantly in planning the run for best time and a good completion.

I understand entirely. But is it really when you've already beaten the game a considerable number of times?

In the end though, it's up to you. :D You do this how you most feel comfortable doing it. Either way though, it's going to take study and effort. :D

Best ending? Naked Sam? :D

I curse the VC.

I decided that all the recent games were too weak for me, and downloaded Ghouls and Ghosts and Kid Icarus.

I have been shown humility.

Good luck on getting the best ending!

I'm stuck on 1-4. I've died a bazillion times.

Stupid eggplant wizards.

You've grown weak with your rhythm games and head-twistingly mind-bending game*

* I picked up Smario Galaxy for Andrew's family, and I watched them playing it for a bit. I think I pulled a muscle by twisting my head to match the planets.

Kid Icarus was my very first NES game. Maybe that's why I don't remember it being hard.

Hah! I just started getting games on the VC. I never played the Metroid series, so I got the Super Mario Bros series, and Adventure Island. Of course, I am sadly out of practice, and am dying quite frequently. But I am amused and nostalgic. Kind of geeky, but I would have liked the old Final Fantasy's to come out. Maybe some day.

Suck. I used to love those.

Spend a long time going through the whole game with your x-ray vision, and shoot for that elusive 100%. Try lots of crazy sky jumps to see whats at the top of every wall.

Then play through the game about a zillion times. In one sitting each time.

My best was 99% with 1:40 something. I could never find that last missile canister :(

You'll easily smoke it the second run, even without writing anything down.
