Me == Idiot
So, I got a water bill from Waterloo North Hydro1 a couple days ago, with an outstanding balance indicating that I didn't pay my last (July) water bill. I was sure I did, so I went back in my banking records to investigate.
I did pay it.
To London Hydro. *headdesk*
I called London Hydro; they'll mail me a cheque. *takes London Hydro off his Bill Pay list so he doesn't do that again*
1 Waterloo North Hydro is the local electricity distributor. Many local electricity utilities are named something Hydro. The etymology has to do with that Ontarians call their electricity supply 'hydro' (ie, the hydro went out again)... probably because, originally, Ontario's electricity supply was hydro-electric, and the provincial utility was called Ontario Hydro.
Since they already have billing systems set up, the cities also contract with them to provide billing services for water and sewage, even though they don't administer them. Making Hydro perhaps a slightly better name than it would be.
