Japan Day 12 (Tokyo)
Monday
I woke up rather early, due to the need to check-out of the hotel before 10 am.
I had been told the Tsukiji Fish Market was a good place to get sushi, so I went over there. I didn't see much of the market, but I did find some of the restaurants, and eventually settled into one. (Tsukiji seems to be roughly pronounced tskiji, rhymes with skeezy, which kind of made me giggle)
Unfortunately, I did not have a great sushi experience. I got a certain sushi set, and the sushi was good (but not great), except for two pieces. One was the squid, which I always found rather tasteless and rather too rubbery for my liking. The other, I have no idea. It was a roll-type piece, and on top was some sort of salty fishy jelly like thing. I don't think it was roe. It was quite possibly the most disgusting thing I've tasted in a long time, and completely ruined the experience for me. Meg's going to take me back to the conveyor belt sushi place, which did have amazing sushi. I don't want my last sushi experience of Japan to be a bad one.
After that, I headed to Akihabara Electric Town to take a look around. The sheer variety of electronics available here was kind of amazing, with everything from discrete bits (wires, resistors, etc.) to manga, anime, and digital cameras and laptops. I didn't really find anything I wanted to find there (although, wow, it's amazing what they've done with digital cameras nowadays.)
Next up, I headed up to Harajuku to people watch and to see the Meiji shrine. By this time I was totally ready to leave (my feet no longer love me) so I headed over to Tokyo Station, and caught the Shinkansen back to Osaka.
And here I am. Today's plans:
Sushi.
Get to the airport on time.
(For those keeping track, my flights are on Tuesday Oct. 2nd, AC36 (KIX -> YVR) and AC1166 (YVR->YYZ))
Can't wait to get home!
